Forskolin is a chemical found in the coleus herb that activates the enzyme adenylate cyclase. Andenylate cyclase compound initiates a myriad of critical events and processes within all the cells of the human body. One of these processes is increasing cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). From a weight loss perspective this process is essential because by increasing cAMP, fat is mobilized from fat cells for use as energy.
Researchers have found that many obese people have lower than normal cyclic AMP production. Because of these considerations, coleus forskohlii may, theoretically, be a weight loss agent, especially for those with reduced cyclic AMP production.
These statements about Coleus forskohlii have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Coleus forskohlii is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
