Effective Dosage: There is currently no clinical evidence that Magnolia bark is effective as a weight loss supplement at any dosage. For some health conditions, the recommended dosage is 300mg magnolia bark extract capsules (based on a standardised two per cent of honokiol) taken one to three times a day, or as otherwise directed on the product label.
Magnolia bark has been recognised for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine for its therapeutic properties. Chinese texts refer to the treatment of 'fear chi' (fear energy) with magnolia bark and claim that it can aid relaxation, increase energy levels and relieve anxiety. It has also been used for treating digestive complaints, particularly those that are stress-related, and breathing difficulties resulting from some form of emotional upheaval.
Natural chemicals present in Magnolia bark, magnolol and honokiol, are thought to be responsible for its anxiety-reducing effects. These two compounds have been shown to help regulate levels of the body's primary stress hormone, cortisol. Excessive levels of cortisol are associated not only with causing stress and anxiety but also a number of other conditions, including stress-related obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, memory problems and suppression of the immune system.
Magnolia bark extract has become a increasingly popular ingredient in non-prescription diet pills because of its potential cortisol-lowering abilities, however there have been no human studies conducted that support this claim.
These statements about Magnolia bark have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Magnolia bark is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
