Phentermine History
In 1959, Phentermine first received
approval from the FDA as an appetite suppressant for
short term treatment of obesity. In early 1970's,
Phentermine Hydrochloride became available. Previously
sold as Fastin from King Pharmaceuticals for Smithkline
Beecham, it was removed from the market in 1998. In the
US, Phentermine is currently sold by Medeva
Pharmaceuticals (Ionamin) and Gate Pharmaceuticals
(Adipex-P). It is also available as a generic
phentermine diet pill.
