Effective Dosage: There is currently no clinical evidence that Plantain leaf is effective as a weight loss supplement at any dosage.
Plantain leaf, or Plantago major L. leaves, have been used as a wound healing remedy for centuries in almost all parts of the world and in the treatment of a number of diseases apart from wound healing. These include diseases related to the skin, respiratory organs, digestive organs, reproduction, the circulation, against cancer, for pain relief and against infections. Plantain leaf contains biologically active compounds such as polysaccharides, lipids, caffeic acid derivatives, flavonoids, iridoid glycosides and terpenoids. Alkaloids and some organic acids have also been detected.
Plantain leaf can be found as an ingredient added to some non-prescription diet pills. These diet pill product manufacturers claim that plantain leaf acts as an appetite suppressant, however there is no evidence of this in any animal or human studies.
These statements about Plantain leaf have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Plantain leaf is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
